RESIDENTIAL - CALIFORNIA, USA
Redesign of an existing landscape to increase sustainability using native plants and permaculture design techniques.
During the California mandatory water use reductions in 2015, many existing landscapes withered and died - including the large lawn on this property. Instead of completely eliminating a lawn, the lawn size was drastically reduced and strategically placed at the bottom of slopes (naturally collecting and slowing water runoff). The newly cleared area was planted with a variety of native species to California and similar horticultural selections. The finishing touch is a thick layer of high contrast wooden mulch. Mulch prevents water runoff, evaporation, and enhances soil quality as it breaks down.
This project required HOA approval of plant selections and site drawings.
