Landscape Design

Design Inspired By Nature

My design emphasis is increasing sustainability in existing landscapes. I also design larger projects from start to finish that intentionally incorporate sustainability in every step.

From my Permaculture Design Certificate (2014) and Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California Santa Cruz, I have extensive practical and academic experience in the following:

  • Natural History, Botany

  • Fruit Tree Pruning, Urban Orchards, Forestry Management

  • Passive Water Harvesting, Erosion Control

  • Site Design Plans, Site Reports, Planting Guides/Lists

  • Sustainable Agriculture, Horticulture, Composting, Soil Science, Plant Propagation

    PERMACULTURE

Permaculture is landscape design technique focused on closed-loop systems, multi-functional elements, resourcefulness, and harmonizing with nature.

When used as a sustainable agriculture technique, one can design for dense food forests, urban homesteading, and biodiversity preservation.

Common elements in permaculture design are passive water harvesting and pollinator gardens.

    HOAs

Homeowner Associations are a common presence and design regulator in many communities. It’s important to know the rules and regulations each HOA has regarding landscaping.

Almost every HOA’s goal is to have tidy, attractive, and cohesive landscaping throughout the neighborhood.

Understanding their pre-approved plant selection lists and other landscaping requirements is essential for success.

    NATIVE PLANTS

Native plant species are the backbone of any landscape in any region. When used as a design focus, they holistically supplement horticultural and non-native species.

Plants are selected from the following regions: Southwest/Intermountain (Sonoran, Mohave, Chihuahuan, Pinyon Juniper, Riparian, Grasslands, Mixed Evergreen), Pacific West (Grassland, Oak, Chaparral, Mixed Evergreen, Riparian)

    SERVICES

Site plan drawings, write ups, and plant selection lists are essential in every landscape design project. They serve as a reference guide.

Primary drawings include a vegetation design map and a base design template. Other layers include soil, water, & landform and zone & sector analysis.

Plant selection lists and other project write ups can be added to site plan drawings.

I also offer in-person and virtual site consults.
